Maestro Cláudio Modesto is a countertenor who studied voice at the Escola de Música do Espírito Santo, in the class of Professor Nathércia Lopes.
He took voice courses with Maria Foltyn (of the Warsaw Opera), Otello Borgonovo (of La Scala in Milan) and Franco Iglesias (vocal coach at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York). He was a scholarship student at the University of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain, in 1992/1993, in the voice class of Professor Ana Higueras.
As a soloist, he has sung Handel's Messiah (Palácio das Artes, Belo Horizonte); Padre José Maurício's Solemn Vespers for Our Lady (in São Paulo); and Old Spanish Songs (Concert Hall of the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, in Santiago de Compostela). In Vitória, he has performed Mozart's Requiem; Vivaldi's Gloria and Stabat Mater; Pergolesi's Stabat Mater; Bach's Cantata 142; Vivaldi's Psalm 126 (Nisi Dominus); Bruckner's Te Deum; and more.
He is currently the conductor of the Coral da UFES and of the Opus Liberi Choir.
